About the Program
Throughout the years, childhood obesity rates in America have increased rapidly. Today, nearly "one in three children in America are overweight or obese." It has been estimated that one third of children born in 2000, or later, will suffer from diabetes some time in their lives. Diseases include heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, asthma, among many others. Obesity related cases now cost approximately $147 billion per year.
Obesity is not only making an impact in children's life, but also to the nation's security. This disease is now one of the most common factors for non acceptance for military service. First Lady, Michelle Obama, wants to stop this epidemic. She saw the situation, and decided to take a step, and help those who suffer from obesity, or other diseases. “The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake,” said Mrs. Obama. “This isn’t the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved. So, let’s move.”
Let’s Move is comprehensive, collaborative, and community-oriented.

Unhealthy Choices
A thought becomes an action, an action practiced frequently, becomes a habit. People these days are creating habits that are not healthy and eventually harm their lives. The most common age group making unhealthy decisions are young children and teenagers. Usually, most people don't eat just to stay healthy; they eat because of boredom, socialization, depression, comfort, cravings, etc. A person's enviornment can influence his/her choices and eating habits. Americans are consumed with the convience of fast food restaurants and "grab and go lunches" at local convience stores . Food suppliers may also promote foods which claim to be healthy but we later find out to be quite the opposite.
